A Storify of the U.S. Open Cup first round

I decided to do a bit of an experiment last night with the U.S. Open Cup’s first round games.

While we certainly have what I believe is great coverage here from Aaron Stollar of the Dulles Sportsplex Aegean Hawks upset over the PDL’s Carolina Dynamo, did you happen to follow his live updates during the match?

And weren’t you just a bit curious about how the rest of the first round matches were playing out in real time, in the views of reporters, team officials and fans?

As a soccer junkie, and a fan of the U.S. Open Cup, I was.

That’s why I decided to Storify the U.S. Open Cup’s first round.

What is “to Storify?”

In a nutshell, it’s a roundup of links, videos, social media (Tweets, Facebook posts, You Tube videos, Instagram photos, etc.) and brief comments about a particular subject. My subject, in this case, was the first round of the U.S. Open Cup–all 16 matches.

In real time, I searched, compiled and organized the conversation that was taking place about the U.S. Open Cup, and organized those conversations around each game taking place. I included tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram photos and more as they were happening, and after the matches, added game reports from all 16 matches, and it’s all in one place.

In the future, it’ll be possible to link that directly to this blog, and as I work with this tool and refine and enhance what I’m doing with it, I believe it’ll have a nice impact in covering events of this nature. In the meantime, if you missed anything from any of the first round U.S. Open Cup matches from last night, check it out and let me know what you think.
