American forward Clint Dempsey kicked off the new year with a spectacular goal from long range, helping Tottenham Hotspur to a 3-1 win over Reading on New Year’s Day.

Dempsey made his first Spurs appearance of the crowded holiday schedule period after a brief stint on the injury list, and he would notch his 54th career English Premier League goal in the 78th minute after receiving the ball well outside the penalty box.

His strike from 30 yards out might have been deflected a bit by a defender, but it was still a marvelous goal and a great way for the American to begin the new year.
