Players That Impressed: Girls Academy 2024 Champions Cup and Winter Showcase

The 2024 Girls Academy Champions Cup and Winter Showcase took place over the weekend in Norco, CA as some of the top teams in the nation gathered for the event.

Taking place from December 5-9, it was the first Champions Cup event of the season with all qualifying teams from U13-U19 facing off. The showcase side featured U15-U19 teams, who faced off with teams outside their conference. (ATTENDING SCOUTS)

2030

Olive Holmgren

Defender
CA

The defensive captain for Lamorinda SC’s 2012 team, Holmgren was a force to be reckoned with as her back lined conceded only 1 goal throughout the 3-game tournament. She also contributed a hat trick on what turned out to be a dominant performance overall, with Lamorinda sweeping their opponents and outscoring them by a margin of 12-1.

Irelynn is a promising Class of 2030 prospect to monitor in the coming years, as she continues to shine for Lamorinda SC 12. She plays at a level beyond her years, which was evident throughout her dominant hat trick performance against Lou Fusz Athletic. She also had several assists throughout the tournament, and had pinpoint accuracy on crosses and corner kicks.

Liliana Rubio

Midfielder
CA

Rubio lined up at multiple different positions, showing her versatility on a successful weekend for the Lamorinda SC U16 squad. She played on the wing, in an attacking midfield role, as a holding midfielder and at outside back. The wide variety of tactics paid off, as Lamorinda had an unbeaten 2-0-1 run, finishing at the top of their group in Champions Cup action.

Galaxy SC 10 (IL)

Stone’s work in the midfield helped Galaxy SC 10 earn a flawless 3-0 record in the GA Champions Cup. Her natural ability to read the game at a high level was noteworthy, both on the attacking side and in her team’s defensive effort. These two-way skills came together in the opening game, when she turned a defensive steal into a quick scoring opportunity, setting up a strong finish by Brooke Loudermilk. (HIGHLIGHTS)

Rylee Shields

Playing all 270 minutes, Shields contributed significantly to the Jaguars’ undefeated performance at the event, helping secure wins against teams from Illinois, New Jersey, and Florida. Her defense in 1v1 situations and her ability to deliver accurate short and long-range passes were notable in all 3 games. Shields brings leadership, a physical presence, and consistent defensive play to a stingy Jaguars’ back line.

Shira Rand

A highly effective, two-way player, Shira consistently locked down the left side of the defense, with no goals being scored on her watch. Moreover, her ability to dispossess oncoming strikers, quick acceleration, deft dribbling and accurate passing led to multiple goals on counterattacks.

Turned in a strong two-way performance in the GA Winter Showcase, as West Florida Flames 09 finished at the top of Bracket A. Rothman played all 270 minutes at the event while contributing a goal and an assist, lining up at multiple different positions all over the field.

Union KC 09 (MO)

The Union KC 09 team captain delivered multiple goals and set up her teammates with a number of key passes over the course of the showcase, as they won two of their three games in Norco. Good and her teammates showed an ability to overwhelm opposing defenses with forceful runs into the box, coming up with loose balls and finishing second chances opportunities. (HIGHLIGHTS)

Beadling SC 09 (PA) 

Malley was a significant two-way contributor for Beadling SC 09 during their undefeated run in Norco, finishing with a 2-0-1 record. She scored a critical goal in a 1-1 draw against Arizona side SC del Sol on Day 2, powering home a header off a long range free kick sent into the box by Rosalia Varlotta.

Kansas Rush 09 (KS)

Playing striker for a strong Kansas Rush 09 side, Bovell showed a savvy ability to create space and put herself in position to score, whether she’s on or off the ball. She scored a pair of goals on the weekend, one of which came just 15 seconds after kickoff, and set up multiple scoring chances for her teammates.

HTX Soccer 09 (TX)

Kamryn scored 3 goals (one in each game) as she helped her team to a 2-1-0 finish and earn qualification to the GA Champions Cup Finals in March. She also helped set up her teammates with key passes and crosses over the weekend. Kamryn displayed strong chemistry wither her teammates, and showed the ability to score off set pieces and in the run of play.

Galaxy SC 08 (IL)

Radek is a dynamic defender/winger for a Galaxy SC 2008 team that is loaded with talent. On Day 2 against Keystone, Radek served up a perfect corner kick that nearly went unassisted into the goal. This sparked the squad to go on a 5-0 scoring run, securing its place at the top of the table in the team’s first Champion’s Cup appearance.

Paytin Guyton | Forward
Lamorinda SC 09 (CA)

Guyton shined on the attacking side for a Lamorinda SC 09 team that went undefeated in their bracket, locking up a spot in the GA Champions Cup Finals. Guyton had a key assist in Friday’s game against FC United, then provided the winning goal in Monday’s game against City SC. Her speed and high soccer IQ were on full display.

Sloane Phillips

Midfielder
CA

City SC GA 2008 had 3 wins/shutouts at GA Champions Cup and are the #1 seed in U-17 advancing to the GA Champions Cup Finals in Florida in March. The Colorado commit led her team, including the match winning, rocket-volley goal in a 1-0 win against a high-ranked Florida United squad in Game 1 off a well-placed free kick from Ayla De Vore (Utah State commit).

Phillips controlled the midfield in a 2-0 win in Game 2 vs Lamorinda with box-to-box dominance. In Game 3, she created an assist on a tenacious goal from Cheyanne Longwell (2027 grad) that sealed the game after being double-teamed in the middle of the field for a great team win against Michigan Jaguars SC.

Amara Leppla

Midfielder
WI

The uncommitted Class of 2026 attacking midfielder and winger was active throughout the GA Champions Cup event, helping her SC Wave ’07 squad pick up a couple of big wins. Leppla funneled scoring opportunities into the final third for a relentless SC Wave attack, which piled up 10 goals in back-to-back wins to open the event. (HIGHLIGHTS)

Chloe Bunton

Kept up her showcase scoring streak with a goal in the first game of the GA Winter Showcase and Champions Cup. Often fighting through double and triple teams, Bunton has scored at least once in each of the last four showcases. She kept her team dangerous throughout the competition with suffocating play in the midfield and pinpoint passing in the attacking third.

Hailey Crabb

Crabb is an outstanding center back. With her strong defensive skills, impressive pace and ball control, she was among the top performers at the event. Her proficiency on the ball is particularly notable. She delivers powerful strikes and effectively switches the point of attack with her precise long-range passing. Crabb plays with great confidence and consistently serves as a reliable outlet for her teammates.

Kennedy Miller, a 2026 verbal commit to Kansas State, made a significant impact as a forward with her blistering speed and relentless grit, constantly pressuring defenders and creating scoring opportunities. Her ability to weave through opponents with impressive dribbling skills allowed her to break down defensive lines and get into dangerous positions. Kennedy’s shot-taking ability was on full display, as she confidently struck three fantastic goals, making her the top goal scorer for Kansas Rush.

Grayson was the starting left outside back for Kansas Rush and played every minute of all three matches. In Game 1, Grayson seized the opportunity on a free kick to find the back of the net for her first goal of the showcase. In Game 2, her deadly left foot again came up big on a set piece, this time on a corner setting up her teammate, Jada Farrington, for the header finish.

St. Louis Development Academy ’08 (MO)

Stevens played a key role on a St. Louis Development Academy back line which conceded only one total goal at the GA Winter Showcase, while sweeping their three opponents. She got in on the scoring as well, converting a penalty kick to close out the event.

Wake FC 08 (NC)

Leonard and the Wake FC 08 defense stepped up during their GA Champions Cup matches in California, securing a pair of clean sheets while locking up their spot in the Champions Cup Finals. Wake FC conceded just one total goal over the course of three games, with Leonard organizing the defense and making several big saves.

Helped lead her team to a perfect 3-0-0 record for the event, scoring two goals, and relentlessly pressing defenses to force mistakes and create scoring chances for her team.
