US stars Dempsey, Friedel are gingerbread men at Tottenham

Few professional players represent the United States abroad with more distinction than Clint Dempsey and Brad Friedel at English Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur.

But the duo recently had to face up to a whole new sort of challenge alongside several of their teammates as they got into the holiday spirit with a gingerbread house construction contest.

Three teams of Spurs — comprising several languages and nationalities — were tasked with building the prettiest, most structurally sound house possible in a limited time, and the results were predictably entertaining. Dempsey’s explanation of his team’s…shall we say, unconventional creation were also worth a chuckle.

In the end, the winner was presented to a local hospital as members of the team visited some brave children who are spending their holidays undergoing medical treatment.

The video is also a timely reminder that like soccer, holiday cheer is a universal language around the world.
