SoccerWire is publishing Q&A articles with players who have Featured Profiles in the SoccerWire Recruiting Directory. The series allows players to share their stories on the college recruiting process, playing the game at the international level, travel and high school soccer, and their passion for the beautiful game.

In this edition we will showcase Reese Huffman, who plays travel soccer in ECNL for Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy, and has verbally committed to play college soccer in 2025 at Kansas.

SoccerWire: What made you decide to verbally commit to Kansas?

Reece Huffman: When I went on my visit to Kansas I fell in love instantly, the coaches, the campus, the program, all of it. It checked all of my boxes.

SW: What was the recruitment process like for you? What did you learn about yourself
while going through it?

RH: The recruitment process for me was very nerve racking but exciting. It taught me a lot and I’ve meet some nice coaches who I still have as friends! The one thing I would take back from it was you’re not going to be for everyone and everyone isn’t going to be for you so you’re just testing out the waters.

SW: What has your experience been like playing for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds?

RH: My experience playing for the Riverhounds has been wonderful! I am so grateful that I get to play for such a good team and for all of the life long friends I have made.

SW: What’s your earliest soccer memory?

RH: I started playing soccer when I was about 4 years old, I had a lot of memories but I think my earliest one was when I was playing as a goalie and I stubbed my finger and it all changed from there.

SW: What’s the best piece of advice that you have ever received from a coach?

RH: The best piece of advice I have ever received from a coach was “Don’t play for the people watching, play for yourself” and I still go by it to this day.

SW: Outside of soccer, what clubs, organizations, and/or jobs are you involved with and what do you think you would like to study in college?

RH: I am very involved in my church and FCA ( fellowship of Christian Athletes) in school. I would like to study elementary education in college!

SW: What are your favorite pair of soccer cleats that you have ever worn?

RH: My favorite cleats I have ever worn are the Kylian Mbappé x Mercurial Superfly 7 elite FG ‘The chosen 2’ and I still have them!

SW: If you could give one piece of advice to a younger player who wants to play forward what would it be?

RH: I play forward and I would tell them to never stop pressing because that is how you’re TEAM will always win the ball!

SW: Is there anyone that you would like to give a shout out to for helping you in your soccer career or in the classroom?

RH: I have so many coaches who have given me the best opportunities and who has taken the time to take care of me. But I will have to give a shout out to Scott Gibson my current coach for giving me the opportunity to play at this level and for believing in me!
